Toile's star blessed Sukkot

For Toile, Sukkot is a festival of stars, a celebration of her namesake. Someone had once told her that we should be able to see the stars through the roof of the Sukkah, and Toile held on to the wonder of this wisdom, deep in her heart. This story begins with Toile helping to build the Sukkah, weaving shiny leaves into the roof to encourage the stars to join her. As she shakes the Lulav and Etrog welcoming the ancestors from all directions, she imagines that she is guiding the stars from the heavens to earth. Through the days of Sukkot Toile discovers more and more stars on Earth, finding their pattern living, where she had not seen it before. She is so delighted that she has a little star party and shares her wonder with her guests.

This story weaves together the wonderous reflection between Earth and the cosmos, the joy of creating traditions with family and friends in the Sukkah and an introduction to the practice of inviting the ancestors to join our Sukkot celebrations, through story telling and place making. The story is completed with a magical granting of Toile’s starry wish, offering children a sense of satisfaction with the rightness of the world and echoing the essence of bounty and gratitude that is so strong in Sukkot.
