Mama Greenness and the celebration of lights

Hidden in the roots of an ancient tree, in a garden everlasting, a tiny cottage can be found, this is the humble dwelling of Mama Greenness, who holds the light of possibility and new growth deep in her heart. In the sun-filled seasons of the year, Mama Greenness and her children spend their days outside, playing, dancing, singing, and breathing with all the light drenched goodness of their world.

Then as winter comes softly creeping with frost and darkening afternoons, Mama Greenness calls her sleepy children in. And she begins, here in their cosy cottage to nurture with them, a different kind of light, a light within, to shine out into the darkness.

Together they are getting ready, for an age-old celebration of hope, held in the miracle of a kindled flame, a festival which some children on earth celebrate as Chanukah.

This story tells of Mama Greenness and her family as they enjoy welcoming guests, dreidel games and oil-cooked treats. Woven within this joyful celebration the deeper meanings of the festival of lights are given voice through eight integrated original poems or blessing verses which can be incorporated into your family celebrations and used as inspiration for children's own reflective rhyme and poetry making.
